Beautiful V came to visit us from Montreal. We watched the sun set at Discovery Park and discovered that it is gorgeous.

I bought this shawl yesterday (for $5) to shield my shoulder-stars from the sunshine. J agreed that it was the most "me" fabric ever. What can I say? I has a type.

Today's adventures taught me two things: photographing a parade is hard for a number of reasons and bright sunlight is not something I'm used to. I still got a few good shots of the Solstice Parade in Fremont. The album is here and these are my other favorites.

542 Hello, Sailor

 

Playing with long exposure zoominess. I wasn't actually hanging out with the Sailor tonight, but I've always thought this effect made things look a bit tanked, so it was an appropriate subject. Had a tough time choosing between this one, this one (which is even drunker) and a few others.

541 Get Back

 

Threw my back out again today while picking some laundry up off the floor. Still managed to get the laundry done (pictured, drying) but spent most of the rest of the night on my back. This was taken from bed, with J's iPhone because all my other cameras were downstairs.

540 Serrano

 

Went to Boom after yoga tonight, where J got his usual crazy soba. Those are Serrano peppers, which are the hottest thing I've ever eaten without getting sick. Granted I only had a little piece of one... but still!

539 Dancin' with Bellies

 

Today was my last belly dance class for a while. I'd been meaning to take pictures at the studio for a while, but kept forgetting. Tinycam reminded me today, so here's part of the little shop attached to the studio. In case you didn't know: belly dancing is hard.

Took a wander through Cal Anderson in between yoga and Get Loweded. I love this guy, with his feet in the fountain and his guitar. Once again, I find Tinycam's low-quality and graininess strangely appealing.

537 Radish Relish

 

I looked out the kitchen window today and saw some red bits. Further investigation revealed that, sure enough, our radishes are ready for eating! I sliced them thin (didn't cut off my fingers on the mandoline slicer) and put them on ice for C, E, J, JA, etc to eat while waiting for the grillin' to be done.

This is D's cat, Pixel. She's super shy, but she likes me ok (or at least way more than Roo and a bit more than Marlowe). We're keepin' an eye on her while D's on vacation, so I stopped in to say hi, scritch her a bit and refill her food. She deigned to let me take a few pictures too. I love this one best, but this is a close second.

I had already fallen asleep for the night when J woke me up and I remembered to take a photo. I didn't go far- this is the hanging plant on our porch. I also didn't even bother to get my flash, so this is porch-light-lit. I like it anyway :-)

530 New Generation

 

This is my cousin T and his adorable baby boy, V. I took Gramma's 80th birthday party as an opportunity to practice portraits. I'm pretty happy with this one and some of the others.

Later that night, I took a drive up to Port Huron and got this amazing shot of the Blue Water Bridge (but since I post lots of dark nighttime pictures and not as many portraits, T and V get center stage.)

People ask me how Detroit was... and this is the image that comes to mind. The city itself is a ghost town, with far more abandoned or uninhabitable buildings than thriving ones. It literally looks like it's been bombed. This was taken somewhere around here, as we drove through the city looking for a glimmer of hope in the darkness. It wasn't a unique case by a long shot- we pretty much just stopped at a random building. They mostly look like this. I didn't take many other pictures because it felt exceedingly dangerous, but here's one of the abandoned Michigan Central Station.

Took an evening walk with the dog faces to get icecream - er, "frozen custard" - at the new place down the road. I approve.
