Sea World, part 2

...the Orca edition.

On a whim, The Boy and I decided to go on an impromptu camping trip. We took the ferry to Orcas Island around midday on a sunny Saturday May 15th. I love taking the ferry, not only because of the view:

We landed on Orcas Island and immediately boarded a different boat to search for sea critters... and found some:

In all we saw eight or nine transient Orcas from the T068 family (or so I'm guessing, after matching their dorsal fins and saddle patches to the ones in this document). They were hunting harbor seals, porpoises and other smaller mammals in the area, which probably explains why we didn't see more than a handful of them around.

We also saw a bunch of eagles (and also herons, cormorants and some with long red beaks that I don't remember the name of)

After three hours on the boat, we set up camp, then went exploring.

(some dude got in front of Mt Baker)

...and on and on. I didn't take pictures of the amazing campfires or the following morning's paddle boat ride around one of the island's small lakes. Or the adorable cafe where we had lunch, or ... well, the rest of it.

Sea World, part 1

These are from April 26th, my last day of freedom before starting my new job. I had to take the car to a repair place in Burien so I decided to take a trip to Seahurst Park. The result was a bunch of macro shots...

(no idea what these are but they were TINY)

...there was also a well-dead harbor seal, though I'm not posting the pictures I took of that.
